Introduction

We are currently offering lessons in downtown Portland, Seattle, and Salem; or anywhere online! Remote lessons using our Zoom optimization and other tricks make them just as effective as live lessons. Our method was born in New York City. Our founder, Jesse Cromer, graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in 2009, and regularly meets with top singers and teachers around the world, so that we stay flexible and growing. We can teach (and sing) in any style, and offer a unique, direct, and patient approach to voice lessons. Jesse has performed on the stages of Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher, two Off-Broadway shows, and toured with hip-hop super group Deltron 3030, culminating in a Letterman Show appearance. He has also performed locally with Broadway Rose Theatre, Clackamas Repertory, among others. Active in film and tv as well, Jesse played Ron in the Netflix show Documentary Now - Season three episode three. Beginning in January 2019, Jesse began hiring teachers, to help him share this technique with the world. Each teacher studied privately with him, trained separately with an emphasis on pedagogy, and possesses a strong performance resume in whatever genre they specialize in. This has been an immediate success, as we now offer lessons as affordable as $60 per hour. We currently have five teachers total, in Seattle, Portland, Salem, and LA; more are presently training! Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Prices with Jesse are $90 per each individual hour lesson, or $80 per if you pay monthly ($320for 4). Clients paying monthly will be responsible for setting up make-ups for lessons that they cancel with 24 hours notice, and after the first payment, will pay every 4th lesson. No need to make up for major holiday weeks, unless desired. For half-hours, it works the same way, but for $50 individual / $45 ($180 for 4) monthly. Lessons canceled under 24 hours will be charged. No refunds. Other AAS teachers have the same guidelines, but range from $50 - $70 per hour.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We'll start with a free phone consultation, to decide which teacher will be the best fit. The first lesson will begin with a system of exercises that I’ve culled and developed over the years, focusing on breathing, release of tension, and mixture of head and chest voices. From there, we work on whatever music you choose. The technique goes hand in hand with any style of singing. All Coaches use the same structure.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Jesse - Bachelor of Music-Vocal Performance Manhattan School of Music 2009.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began playing the piano from a young age, and starting singing at age 14. After a few years and inspiring musical experiences, I decided that I wanted to be a singer. Coming from a family of two public school teachers, pedagogy is in my blood, so teaching comes naturally. I even have a brother who is a professional golf instructor! 4 years ago, after 10 years in NYC performing and teaching, I came back to be with family. Since then, my studio has grown to over 25 students a week.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We've worked with every kind of singer / musician that I can think of. Off the top of my head, We’ve had singers of early music, opera, art song, musical theatre, jazz, rock, pop, hip-hop, big-band, funk, R&B, punk, ska, metal, electronic.. the list goes on and on. I’ve also helped people with public speaking, piano, and acting as well.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Five years ago, a young man walked into my studio, and wanted to work on background vocals for a successful local band that he played bass with. He had some experience, but felt weak vocally. After diligently learning the technique, he has grown immensely, with fantastic head and chest voices. Several months ago, the band had no choice but to ask him to front the band! One more example would be during fall 2017, one of my students began at the Manhattan School of Music, with scholarship. After just a year of lessons with me, his voice blossomed, and he is currently flourishing at school.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Try multiple teachers. It can be hard to find the right fit. Also, look for someone that gives you immediate connections / results, and that makes you laugh. We are happy to offer a range of teachers at all price points, so just give us a call to take the next step!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How often you’d like lessons, what your budget allows for, and specific genres / songs that you’d like to sing.
